Social Justice Book and Movie Club

All parishioners and friends are invited to join us throughout the upcoming year as we discuss issues such as immigration, poverty, genocide, care of the sick, and capital punishment through movies and books.

Movie on Friday, October 5, 2007: Our first movie is going to be Wetback the Undocumented Documentary (2005, made for TV, 90 minutes.) This movie follows two friends traveling on an extraordinary journey from Central America to North America. These immigrants navigate real-life nightmares with uncanny calm, grace and even humor in their pursuit of a better life. Meet in the Trinity Room at 7:00 pm. Bring your own snacks and beverages.

Book Group on Wednesday, October 24, 2007: Our first book is going to be Enrique's Journey by Sonia Mazario. When Enrique was five, his mother left Honduras to work in the United States. After eleven years, he made the dangerous trek through Mexico, with little more than a slip of paper bearing his mother's North Carolina telephone number. Read the book before October 24th. Come to the Parish Office for a discussion from 7:00-8:00 pm. Coffee, tea and dessert will be served.
