Curriculum

Religion (Sadlier)

  • God gives us the World, Jesus, the Church and us.
  • Planning 6 school Masses throughout the year
  • All Saints Day Mass and Procession dressed as Saints
Math (Saxon)
  • Daily addition and subtraction facts tests
  • Problem solving and mental math with each lesson
  • Written and oral test every 10 lessons
Reading/Language (Metra Companion Reading and Harcourt Brace)
  • Covers 1 unit a week (28 units)
  • Phonetic Based Program
  • Literature
  • "Buddy Reading" with fifth grade on Thursdays
Phonics (Saxon)
  • Covers all letter recognition and sounds
  • Coding words for schwas
  • Long and short vowels
  • digraphs (vowel & consonant)
  • trigraphs, quadrigraphs, dipthongs, syllable division, affixes (prefix & suffix)
  • Assessment every Friday - oral and written
Spelling (Saxon)
  • Pre-test on Monday
  • Post test on Friday

Homework

A first grade student at Most Holy Trinity should expect to have approximately 10 minutes of homework each night.  Homework is assigned on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights and on the weekends.


Supply List

  • 1 Fiskars scissors
  • 12 #2 pencils - please have 3 sharpened
  • 1 packages of eraser tips (will be collected and passed out as needed)
  • 1 large eraser
  • 1 box of Crayola Classic Colors wide markers
  • 1 box of Crayola Classic Colors thin markers
  • 1 - 24, 48 or 64 count box of Crayola Crayons
  • 1 box Crayola colored pencils
  • 1 spacemaker pencil box (8 1/2 x 5 only) w/crayons, large eraser, 3 pencils inside
  • 1 small (recipe type) file box with dividers for math fact cards (will be reused in 2nd and 3rd grades)
  • 1 bottle Elmer's School Glue (no gel glue)
  • 2 glue sticks
  • 1 durable (plastic) 2-pocket folder
  • Math Money - 23 pennies, 8 nickels, 10 dimes, 1 quarter (each in it's own small zip-lock bag) - returned at the end of the year
  • 3 large size boxes of Kleenex
  • 1 box baby wipes (80 count or higher)
  • 1 pack stickers
  • 3 large boxes or bags of snacks (Goldfish, Ritz, Graham Crackers, Animal Crackers, Cheeze Its, etc.)
  • Water bottle w/push top lid (may be used every day)
  • 1 Zip-Lock bag - quart size
  • 2 bottles of hand sanitizer (GermX, Purell, etc.)
  • 1 container of Clorox wipes (bleach free)
  • 1 pkg. unlined index cards (white)
  • 1 hand pencil sharperer (for colored pencils)

* PLEASE LABEL ALL ITEMS WITH YOUR CHILD'S NAME. PLEASE DO NOT SEND ANY ITEM THAT IS NOT ON THE SUPPLY LIST *

*Supplies may be brought in a bag with child's name to Parent Welcome Back Night if you wish. There will be a box near the first grade door in which you may place the supplies.
