Honduras
Our annual Lenten focus is to help the people of Honduras. Collections taken at the Ash
Wednesday Liturgy and freewill offering from the Soup Supper are given to our Mission near
Tegucigalpa, Honduras. In addition, our Vision newsletter features a Lenten calendar and
coin box to collect nickles, quarters and dollars as we sacrifice and pray during Lent.
During Holy Week Liturgies, parishioners bring their coin boxes to the altar to be added to the
collection for Honduras.
Father Isidoro, a native Honduran, was our guest on Ash Wednesday. He has supervised the
construction of 370 new houses in his parish. One of these houses was purchased through the
generosity of MHTıs Women's Club last year. Not only did their donation of $1700 provide a
house for a Honduran family, but the building of the house employed many people which also
helps their economy. The houses still have dirt floors and there is no running water in these
dwellings but they are sturdy homes, with adobe brick walls to replace their cardboard and
plastic shacks.
At the Ash Wednesday Soup Supper there were many people who wanted to meet Father Isidoro and
learn more about his work in Honduras. Your generous support of Fr. Isidoro's ministry has furthered
St. Francis' call to serve the poor.
St. Max Kolbe church, built in 1983, has outgrown its usefulness. Serving over 219,000 people,
the church is too small to handle mass attendance. It is in dire need of expansion and repair.
The roof of the church is eroding due to termites.
Children of San Max parish attend Sunday Mass at the school because the church is too small to
accommodate so many people. A construction committee has begun fundraising efforts by holding
barbecues, raffles, and shows. The hope and dream is to begin construction this year. The total
amount needed is $250,000. So far about $32,000 has been raised. Can you help?
Father Isidoro is pictured with a family from the parish in Campamento. There are 17 villages
served by the parish. Currently masses are celebrated in 12 on a weekly basis. In the other
villages, sacraments are celebrated about every 15 days.
Catalina and Maria are sisters. Catalina has four daughters.
Maria is a widow. They all share this one room home
If you would like to make a donation to the Honduran Mission, you may send it to the
Most Holy Trinity Parish Center, 4017 Utica Avenue South, St. Louis Park, MN 55416.
We will forward it to the Francisicans in Honduras.
Fr. Isidoro promises to continue walking with the people in their struggles.
Your generosity is much appreciated and it makes the walk a little bit easier.
